The students were introduced to Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers series. To create their piece, the students learned the parts of the sunflower and began by sketching. After sketching, they used marker and water paint as mixed media and produced bright colorful results!- First Grade
Students were grouped and introduced to the "Paper Table" challenge. In this challenge the students built a paper table that held the weight of a textbook. They began by experimenting by building the paper table from the information given during the introduction. Their paper tables were tested and students noted their strengths and weaknesses as a group. Then, the students were given strategies on ways to build a strong paper table and were able to rebuild and retest their paper tables using the new strategies!- First Grade
Students were grouped and introduced to the "Egg Drop" challenge. In this challenge the students built a structure that protected an egg from a high drop. They began by experimenting and building the structure only from the information given during the introduction. Their structures were tested and students noted their strengths and weaknesses as a group. Then, the students were given strategies on ways to build a stronger structure and were able to rebuild and retest their structure using the new strategies!- First Grade
Students were introduced to Social Studies through learning about being a good citizen. I began by defining academic language such as community and citizen. I explained the meaning of a good citizen and provided examples of ways to be a good citizen. For the activity, students were asked to write how and why they are good citizens. Students enjoyed the activity because they were able to analyze their actions and write about their own personal experiences!- First Grade
